Beyond the magazine proper, Comixpedia has done a number of other things like comic events, comic jam, etc. One thing I've wanted to tackle is a directory of webcomic creators and work which has been long delayed simply because the magazine proper has always been the priority and the hope that someone else would do the directory as I've wanted to see one so I wouldn't have too. So although there are some great directory like sites out there I still see some room for improvement and I will start work on this next month with an eye to having something to launch this summer.
A couple requests - throw out your best and/or craziest ideas for what you think a directory should have in it.
Second - one idea I've been toying with is integrating the directory with a modified top list script. The idea would be to allow Comixpedia members and visitors to make recommendations from the directory and that would create a list. This would still work a lot like top lists though - websites could still put "recommend my comic" buttons on their sites. But I don't want an out and out ttypical vote list - I want to have a recommended list to direct readers to good stuff. Ideally there would be a way to capture the collective interest of webcomics readers and extract something useful for readers interested in what they may be missing or trying something new.
Here's some preliminary thoughts on how to make the list more "recommendations" and less popularity contest.
1. Only allow voting per IP or Comixpedia member once a week. The longer period to me would direct more people to treat it as a recommendation and not "vote" per day.
2. Comixpedia members "recommendations" would count more. Potentially lots more. The idea here being that members would better understand the recommendation nature of this idea and be lessl likely to have just come from a site with a Comixpedia List button. How much more is a question. Also how many sites should a Comixpedia member be allowed to recommend? Should more senior members get an even higher "authority" to recommend (more senior being time registered at site and/or post count I guess)
3. Another thing that would be useful if I can make it work would be to reserve some slots on any such recommended page for comics that gain the most from week to week. That might be a way to show up a site that while not at the top of the votes has still jumped up a lot. I'm definitely looking for ideas like this where we could use the data (member and non-member votes for webcomics in the new directory) we know we'll get and still find ways to bring attention to comics that typical top sites would miss.
Anyhow I would love to hear feedback and ideas, good, bad and ugly. Thanks.

RE: Directory Slash Recommended List - Feedback Requested
I think thewebcomiclist.com has the best directory structure, especially with its update reporting. Lists like that are valuable to both creators and readers. Comixpedia doing something like that would be nice. Maybe also having a comic news function like onlinecomics.net has?
A searchable DB would be ace too, where you can search by genre, art style, creator, or keyword.
I'd really rather not see yet another toplist. Most comic sites are already glutted with vote buttons and we've already got at least 4 passable toplists out there.
I know the last post on this topic was months ago, but it looks like you haven't mad up your mind yet about this, so here goes:
So, you want to have a complete list of possible comics to choose from, which would be rather large, and give comixpedia members (CMs) a limited number too choose as their favourites, which would in the end, create a smaller favourites list?
Listing
The big list could be alphabetically ordered, but it's pretty time consuming to order comics by genre. I think 'onlinecomics.net' and 'thewebcomicslist' have nice systems.
You could choose a few trustworthy CMs to act as moderators for the big list. You'd let creators/users/members request a comics' addition to the list, and moderators would either approve or deny that request. (and possibly modify it)
recommended comics list
As for the selection of recommended comics, using the two different vote-types: user and CM is a nice idea.
User votes would be much like any other listing site, counting per month, so a comic's position is reassessed every month. CMs would get 3 heavy weighing, permanent votes.
You could also do the following: take the popularity of a comic according to the use votes, then take the popularity according to the CMs, and determine their true popularity by comparing the two. That way, you could prevent possible cronyism amongst the CMs.
A third possibility is to create 2 recommended lists: CM picks and User picks. (perhaps the third, combined recommendation?)
