Advertising Networks? Best Better Worst?

If anyone's interested I wanted to talk about what ad networks and systems out there are good and seem to work well with webcomics.

Of course you can do it yourself as many webcomics still do (I do that for banners here at Comixpedia) but there are others who can do it for you (for a small fee but of course they do work for you which often includes obtaining people to buy ads in the first place, no easy task).

I also use blogads here which has a different format and which seems to be growing in popularity this year on Comixpedia (it's caught up to the banners I think at this point). On Blog Ads what do you think about the image/text combo - just different or better?

For regular banner ads I think Keen is using Burstnet and several Dumbrellistas are using Indie Media. I think Blank Label is doing it inhouse at this point. Anyone else worth thinking about?

I've used Google ads too but never made much back from them (nor gotten much traffic here from advertising on them elsewhere).

Manley has his http://www.openadnetwork.com/ but so far it's not generally available (or is it? that site is just a picture right now).

Fastclick is the one of the best, IMO. They actually pay on time, which is more than can be said for some of the big names out there. Pretty good fill rate too, about 90% of my pageviews get a paying banner.

Although, they recently removed my website from their system due to "poor results." Many of the other big names (Burst media, Casale media) don't seem too interested in advertising on comics-related pages right now. Readers tend to be high school or university students with no money, not a valued demographic.

After experimenting wtih some adserving networks including Google, i've found that selling our own advertising is still the best way. When we ad served, we generated a huge amount of impressions, but not many clicks because the ads were not relevant to our fans - they had nothing to do with comics or entertainment.

I'm really interested in the BlogAds that you've been using here when we purchase our sponsorships - it seems as if they're working really well for you guys.

One of the other companies we were contacted by and did a test run with was http://www.adservingnetwork.com/ - they were really nice folks, but most of the ads were things about home loans, etc. etc.

so, i guess, as i mentioned earlier, one of the biggest factors of success in ads, served or not, is relevance to the audience because if they're relevant, they'll lead to trust, better click thrus, and a better looking site ^__^
