I'm doing my laundry right now -ah the glamorous life of the webcartoonist- but I'll try and think of a thread that will rock everyone's world for tomorrow. In the meanwhile, if anyone has any brilliant ideas, go to town. (I gotta go fold my socks...)

This is a pretty jarring change, so we'll just have to spark some insightful conversation to get people back to the forums, but to be honest, I'm actually obliged to check the forums, and I'm spending most of my Comixpedia time exploring the new interface and not chatting it up. Once people get comfortable they'll come back, I'm sure.
The more I tool around this site the more I like it though, and I'm not just towing the company line here.

I do agree with Ghastly that it's a little blah, but hardly an A-1 priority, I'm sure.
XX- One thing I did notice is that when I accessed the forum home, I got logged out had to log back in. I accessed them by hitting the 'forum' in:

at the top.

Disappear for a few days and look what I miss! Wow - whole lot a changes going on around here! I'm sure Xerexes will sort out any problems in good time. With the amount of work I imagine went into all of these changes I can only speculate Xerexes will need to get lots more sleep though! ;)
Okay let's see if this works. - You can create a "signature" for all of your comments: forum, news, blogs, etc under the MY ACCOUNT link in the upper left user menu. Click on edit on the MY ACCOUNT page and scroll down - there's a signature box.

Xaviar Xerexes Oh yeah... this place is called ComixTalk now.
There is a way to do avatars and a way to have a signature. I must have just not set it up correctly. I got a decent night of sleep yesterday and when I get home from work today (and put lil x1 and x2 to bed) I'm sure I can fix that.

Xaviar Xerexes Oh yeah... this place is called ComixTalk now.
Actually <em> and <strong> were supported which I guess are the approved tags for HTML 2.0 or something. But I fixed it to allow <i> and <b> as well.
I also added in <img> too.
Thanks for the catch - I'm not trying to make people use bbcode - unlike Postnuke there's no distinction between comments to posts or comments to forums in the system so you can use html for everything or bbcode for everything.
There are a number of other issues with this new forum I don't like. The signature appearing at the top of your edit box when you post a message. The formatting is pretty awkward too. I think the old UBBS board was much superior to this new one. PLus the avatars were nice. This forum apart from being confusing is just very dry and lifeless looking and does not really invite conversation.
I changed the default for the site to show the oldest comments first so now it'll be like it was on the PN site. You can change the options if you'd rather have it work a different way.

Xaviar Xerexes Oh yeah... this place is called ComixTalk now.
I think the issue is, you only see the title of the topic that was most recently replied in. You don't know who it was that replied or when it was. So, in theory, there could have been new posts since your last visit, but if it was all in the same thread, it would look exactly the same on the main page.
That being said, that's also about the only complaint I have with the new main page setup. Everything else is definitely a change for the better.
The order of the forums is about the same (i add back in the Blind Date forum for history's sake). Just looking at it, isn't it about the same as looking at the old one? It's got categories (Comixpedia, Webcomics, Encyclopedia and Special Events) and forums within categories just like PHPBB.
As for the old block on the front page that showed the most recent forum thread comments the ACTIVE FORUM TOPICS on the left (which right now is on every page on the site) shows the same info. Right now it shows the last 5, I think I could up it to 8 like the old block did if people want it.
I could also add a block that shows the most recently added forum topics too (difference is that one does not pay attention to replies) but I thought it a bit redundant.
I'm not going back to PHPBB - it was too much of a headache hack-wise and maintenance-wise but from what I see the Drupal set up is very flexible and I will try to respond to requests for features it turns out to be missing.
