Announcing Project: Fat Uncle Sam with a Bacon Double Cheeseburger

EricMillikin's picture

Eric Millikin has announced his latest project: painted artwork for a short story with a working title of "Fat America: Who's to Blame," exploring issues like how our goverment's agricultural subsidies, consumer spending habits, and fast food marketing contribute to our nation's obesity. The story is written by a prominent cook-book critic and food/nutrition journalist. The print run for the project is over half a million copies.

Keep an eye on http://www.fetusx.com/ for more details.

Some actual facts would be useful...

Eric,

Who is this cook-book critic and food/nutrition journalist?  Why didn't you name him or her in your note?

Since the print run number will be "half a million" who is the publisher?  Again why didn't you name the publisher in your note?

Are you getting my e-mails?

Hey Xerexes, my server was down for maintenance last night, so I didn't get your e-mails until this morning. Did you get the e-mails I sent you back about an hour ago, or is there something up with my mail server?

I just got back from lunch

It's about 1:30 East Coast Time now - I got some emails from you this morning (including the one that explained your domain was down overnight) and replied - my last reply was at about 11:30 AM.

Please reply when you get a chance.  Thanks!

Am I missing an e-mail or two?

I've only got two e-mails from you on this topic -- both were written as if you hadn't received any of mine. The last e-mail I have from you is timed Wed, 29 Mar 2006 10:08:11 -0500 and begins "I saw your fetusx.com post this morning."

Have you sent another since then?

Yes

I think 2 actually since that time.  I just resent both to eric@fetusx dot com.

I'm not getting shit at that

I'm not getting shit at that address right now -- things are just trickling in, hours after people send them, if I get them at all. Let's try this: Send those two e-mails off to wehaveaproblem-at-yahoo-dot-com if you can ...

That's my back-up e-mail, which I never use, so I fucked up the address. It's we_have_a_problem@yahoodotcom

Underscores, man, underscores. I forgot the underscores, sorry.

Still got nothin'

Xerexes, I still got nothing, unless you sent it under your code name of "ariana tariq" and the topic was "Keg. Competition!"

I just sent you an e-mail from my yahoo account; you should be able to reply to it.

Follow Up On This Story

Okay this story has created some controversy and I've tried to sort through some conflicting versions of events this week.  Just to recap, here's what happened:

1.  Eric posted a story.  I moved to the front page Tuesday evening.

2.  Many folks alerted me to a Comicon thread connected to the latest "Webhead" column, of which I was not previously aware, where Eric discussed this project in the context of a long discussion that included some rather pointed personal comments between individuals.  One way to read the Comicon thread is that Eric's Uncle Sam project is simply an elaborate put-on to continue "jokes" made in that thread.  This raised enough questions for me that I wanted additional confirmation of the story before leaving it on the front page of Comixpedia.

3.  Eric and I finally got in contact via email.  I asked for the name and contact information for the author and publisher.

4.  Eric responded to assure me that it is a real project (in fact see Eric's LiveJournal for his response to Eric Burns) but that he is not able to release additional details to me at this time.

This leaves me unable to report on this story.  I want to make clear though that I have no reason to doubt Eric after his reassurances to me and I'm willing to personally extend him the benefit of the doubt.

This, however, is not sufficient for Comixpedia to report on the story at this point.   Eric has suggested that he will be able to provide Comixpedia with additional details in the future and at that point I'll gladly revisit this story.
