Comixpedia Upgrades Continuing
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on May 21, 2006 - 09:37
Just a note on Comixpedia upgrades.
I've turned on the WYSIWYG editor for all of you (what you see is what you get). Please let me know if you don't see this and what browser you're using. It's a port of the TinyMCE editor to Drupal and I've used it without problems for a couple months now. When you're using this editor don't use html other than what the buttons below the input box support. (If you really like writing out html by hand than (1) click the "disable rich-text" link and then (2) goto "Input Format" and choose Filtered HTML)
Also, I've also turned off bbcode. You can still "quote" people and that does show up as bracket - quote - bracket when you click "disable rich-text" but that's the only bbcode-ish thing on the site now.
Second - I opened up the "topics" on the site to "freetagging" which means when you post a blog or a forum topic you can tag it with whatever descriptive words you want. Just remember to be descriptive - the point of the tags is to help people find your posts when they search the site.
Third - I'm experimenting with adding a rolling feed of creators blog, webcomic updates and blogs about webcomics (see the lower left hand column). You can subscribe to the collected feeds of any of these categories of feeds here. You can also write a blog post here about any of these items simply by clicking the little "b" icon next to each entry.
The code on drupal is great for this kind of thing, but it may be too much work for me to add RSS feeds. Tell me if you think it's a useful feature or not! (also if you want to add your RSS feed to it post a comment and tell me which category the feed goes in.)

I'm getting some right-side

I'm getting some right-side truncation viewing search-results in Firefox. IE is showing them okay, though.
Forum Threads
by Xaviar Xerexes - 05/23/2006 - 08:45
If the trunacation is in a forum thread I know the answer but I have to go in and clean it up. If there's one you spot that you want to read put the URL here and I'll fix it. (It's only going to be the older pre-Drupal threads)
If it's not in the forums PLEASE post the URL here b/c it may be due to some other cause I haven't identified yet.Â

Rolling Feeds Idea: Podcasts?
by Fabricari - 05/21/2006 - 16:38
It would be neat to see an aggregation of all the webcomic related podcasts. I have several linked up in itunes, but I'm sure that I'm missing many.

by Xaviar Xerexes - 05/21/2006 - 18:23
I could set that up for podcasts with an RSS feed.Â

Sounds good. :)

Though what I'm really longing for is a bio page for each blog, somewhere where the blogger can leave public info about themselves. Especially their homepage: too often someone's written about an interesting comic they're doing, but they've not linked to it in the post, and without a bio it can be hard to find it.
Yeah, I'd like to see that
by Fabricari - 05/21/2006 - 11:34
Yeah, I'd like to see that as well. I have difficulty putting names, pseudonyms, avatars and titles together. And not everyone shamelessly throws a gaudy footer in their comments. V__V

The post I just made in my blog doesn't seem to have my account sig attached to it, even though I was signed in (or, presumably, I couldn't have made a blogpost) and even though it seems to be going to appear on this post.
Also, the composition window is partly obscured behind the left column of ads so that, when I previewed this comment and noticed there's a typo in the first paragraph, I was unable to see to correct it. Okay, now it's better.

Do you have a sig line in your user account set up? The sig line shows up in your comments when you hit reply, etc. It doesn't show up in blog posts though. I'm not sure I'd want to add it to that actually since it shows your user id and has a link to your blog added to it.
I don't know what happened with the "obscuring" the input window. Was everything wacky with the layout or what? (Also what browser are you using?) Â

Truncating top level comments
by Fabricari - 05/21/2006 - 21:09
I'm having the same problem with top level comments getting truncated on the left. Using Firefox 1.5. Din't comment on it, cuz I thought we were only allowed a couple nit-picks per session ;)
It seems that when you initiate a thread or a blog, your sig template is not applied. Of course, one could just insert the HTML at the footer. But I think this may be better accomodated with a bio page - if drupal lets you do that sorta thang.Â

Bios are coming. I have

Bios are coming.Â
I have not seen the comment getting trunacated on the left and I've been using Firefox 1.5 with the site a lot. Is it all the time, some of the time? Is it only particular threads? Any other details would help. Â
Thanks!Â

Column side truncation
by scarfman - 05/23/2006 - 13:31
It happens when I'm logged in, sometimes, but doesn't happen when I'm not logged in. I'm using Firefox, whatever version the latest online upgrade is.
Logging in, by the way, has also presented difficulties. Sometimes after I've logged in I have to refresh the page for it to show. Sometimes I have to log in more than once for it to take.
As for my original complaint about lack of sig, that seems to have happened in my blog but not here. Is this a blog thread or a forum thread? Or an article thread? Are there more than one settings pages where one must set a sig to have it appear features-wide?
By the way, thanks for the effort you put in.

Everyone Has One Signature For the Site

Posting problem URLs would help me to track it down. So far it's a problem with certain threads b/c of stray code from when we were using phpBB2 for the forums.

That is a problem but refreshing seems to work. I've been looking to see if Drupal.org has any help with that. You may also have an issue if you go from a URL without www to one with www in it.

There is one setting for your signature on your MY ACCOUNT page. That will show up in any comments you make to anything on the site. IT won't show up in your posts which would be blog posts, event posts, forum posts (the initial post in a thread is the "forum post" all other replies to it are treated as comments).

I see it mostly or only on this very topic page.
It's also happened while in comment mode for this topic, but not at the moment and I've known it to go away after post preview.
What it looks like is that the middle, content column has its left margin set too close to the left edge of the browser window; so the left, ads column is laid over it. Sufficiently low-thread replies are indented enough to be unobscured.

Right-side truncation
by Tim Tylor - 05/22/2006 - 04:28
Yesterday one of the forum threads was getting truncated on the right side by the ads, but I'm afraid I've forgotten which one - it might have been this one which now doesn't have an ad-column at all. The other threads seemed fine. I found the truncation happened in both Firefox (1.5.0.3) and IE 6.
That I've seen - it's either
by Xaviar Xerexes - 05/22/2006 - 07:21
That I've seen - it's either a result of the upgrade or the theme being less tolerant of some code left over from when the forums were on phpBB2. It unfortunately requires me to go in and edit some posts (which I just did to the above thread) to delete that code - not to change the posts content of course.
If others are seeing something different though - let me know.Â
