Pseudo tutorial

Ok sometimes I do mistakes (a lot of them really) but thanks to internet tutorials I could GET my art to IMPROVE. So its payback time (at least help the people to avoid making the same mistakes that I do all the time)

So here is the pseudo tutorial

Part 1.- the tools

-Pen .5

-Ink pens (STAEDLER , MARSMATIC .5, .35 , .18) I heard that Pigma pens are better but there is no way I can find those in my country

-eraser

-ink

-some rulers and special paper (there are called in spanish "opalina" i dont know how they are named in english but ask for any paper for inking in your local art supply store)

-scanner & my laptop of course

-programs I use .- photoshop 7.0 and 3d studio max

process

Usually when I start the comic I go for a walk or just sit in my desk until an idea comes to my head sometimes its easy , sometimes its hard. (in math class its a lot easier)

Then I start doing some drawings until the idea pop up in my head

then I start scketching the comic and making the dialogues

when everything its set with my pencil I start doing the comic and after I ink them with my inkpens there is no big science with that

After erasing the pencil marks the comic look like this (sorry I dont have blue pencils)

Then I scan it to my computer usually double size to make the work easier add colors with photoshop and add dialogue bubbles and the backgrounds

Backgrounds

Ok There are 2 ways i do my backgrounds watercolor and cgi but there is no need to do that just a fancy pencil drawing will do some times (just look at Megatokyo)

this is the backgroud of the sample strip, just add it as a background layer in photoshop as simple as thatÂ

but it can be anything even a simple sketch

If I have enough time , its CGI backgrounds time,  the advantage of those are that I can use them a lot of times just adding furniture, modify some stuff around or moving the cameras

Â

for example this is Pilli's new bedroom just moving the camera, we have a different perspective for a different strip

how to blend it without looking bad

One of my first experiments looked so awful

Â

because the background were very strong , those colors the texture didnt blend to well.

With just moving the opacy level you can blend them better

  now it looks more natural

Now I had to do something to blend better with the kind of style I'm doing in my comic, I did a background without texture with better colors , with a low opacy level about 70, then make them sketchy in photoshop I selected th background layer then menu, filter ,artistic , rougth pastels and presto.

Â

this is the original background without flashy effects

The only problem that its sometimes its a lot of work to start something from the scrath (when a new enviroment its needed), and the fans are waiting for the same quality in the next strip

Dont think I'm supermaster on those backgrounds (I`m a noob on those , if you are searching for uuber cgi art just look for http://www.dragon-tails.com/Â Â and http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/Â webcomics, I will just stick to crappy backgrounds for the time.(and because there is no place to learn those in my state or a decent school in my country)

I hope you liked this little pseudo tutorial I didnt got very techy here its just a little review of my work process but I`m still in diapers compared to the average comixpedia reader

see ya
