Wow, I didn't know Gunnerkrigg Court and it's absolutely amazing! I have to confess that until now I considered the WCCA a popularity circle jerk, but now I stand corrected - if it wasn't for it, I'd never have found out about this great strip.

"Lameness" of award ceremony, true romance
by EricMillikin - 07/18/2006 - 00:38
I agree that the "award ceremony" is pretty silly. If you think of an actual award show like the Oscars, the formula for each category is pretty much 1) intro by A-List actor, 2) clips from the nominated film, 3) acceptance speech by the winner, then 4) crazy fucking party. The WCCAs formula seems to pretty much be to dispense with all that and just have intros by D-List actors.

The awards ceremony was late!
by The William G - 07/17/2006 - 23:32
The awards presentation was both late, and leaked?
Well, I think I've found this year's "Why The WCCAs Are Crap And Should Be Ended" excuse for people angry their favorites didnt win...
Honestly though? I've always found the "ceremony" to be a bit on the lame side. Smacks of APA. A tasteful overview of the noms (including some art samples) with a winner named would be my preference.

I like the idea of the ceremony, because it lets the creators who weren't nominated participate. Leave the boring announcements to the technical Oscars.
However, the leak was really frustrating, and made the presentations superfluous. Also I totally blame it for why Onstad didn't win for best writer.

While I wish nothing but the best to the winners, I have to stage a silent protest of the ceremonies due to the injustice to Fetus-X. Fetus-X has made me a classical romantic. My wife is in your debt.

"seems to be a theme this year"
Seriously. I didn't volunteer to do a comic for the presentation so that it could be rendered pointless by the winners being announce in the (@#&!) message board.
Multiplex is a twice weekly humor comic about the staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas and the movies that play there.

I agree with that one. If the ceremony was going to be assembled late, the results should have been released late. Is anyone going to wade through the presentations now? And then someone linked to them in Ryan's work folder online, so the only way you could have read them today was sloppily on one page.
Also my server is down, so no one saw my opening ceremony. (Plus I didn't think I'd be linked directly.)

What Ceremony?
by todaythecomic - 07/17/2006 - 22:40
I share your frustration Gordon (as I sit meditating). I don't know what happened...maybe it had something do with Ryan's adventure over the weekend but still...somebody should have picked up the ball on this one. I was looking forward to it. I was actually waiting for a time that the ceremony would go live....instead, nothing. Goes to show this 'event' wasn't planned all too well. Dare to dream.
