Kid-Friendly Webcomics?
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on November 7, 2006 - 16:53
Dave Roman is asking for help to compile a list of kid-friendly webcomics for Nickelodean Magazine:
The list is including comics that are "okay" for kids...or "all ages"...but I'd really like to find and spotlight ones that are created with kids age 7-12 specifically in mind (Since that's the the Nick Mag demographic). Tricky business, especially on the web where anything goes. I'd rather not link to comics that are on the same site as stuff a parent might object to.
Already on the list are:

I really should have linked to this when we did our "all ages" issue this year. A great list of PG and under comics.

On second thought, let's not go to Comixpedia. It is a silly place.

Great suggestions all - just be sure you post them over at Dave's LiveJournal so he sees them!

My brother and I have been working on an all ages title on our website called “Here There Be Robots”.

We’ve had a lot of good feedback from people who have either picked up our book at a con, or who have been reading it on the website, mostly writing to tell us how much their kids like it.
GAAK--Creature Feature fun for all ages!!!
by TheDeeMan - 11/09/2006 - 18:55
If Dave is watching I'd like to throw my comic GAAK's name into the mix. It's a fun little monsters-run-amok, alien invasion adventure that all ages can enjoy. :) G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures It's like The Goonies meets The Invaders from Mars. Mondays and Fridays.

Ace Champion sounds a good fit
by RobertV - 11/09/2006 - 12:32
My webcomic, Ace Champion sounds like what you're looking for. Marty Wagner is a 12 year old seventh grader who is secretly a super hero that protects the world from aliens. It contains no offensive material and some cartoon type action. It is a nine issue seies that premiered in September 2006, and updates daily monday through Friday. Just started issue 3 as I'm writing this. check it out at http://www.webcomicsnation.com/champion_entertainment/season_one/series.php

None of my comics are especially kiddie-friendly either, but OnlineComics.net does have an "All Ages" category, so a search there would presumably yield more results than you can shake a stick at. Not a child-beating stick, of course. A kiddie-friendly one.

Hmmm, not exactly a long list. Strange that there are so few comics for kids, that we know of at least.

You've already got most of my list there, but you might also try Superslackers by Steven Charles Manale. It's got some grossout gags, but is otherwise just find for that age range, I think.

My comic, Alma Mater, is fairly kid friendly, although it may still be too new to be mention in Nick Magazine. Other than that, I think you've gotten most of the "for kids" and "all ages" comics I can think of.

I'd say Gunnerkrig court is pretty accessible for that age-span. It has some serious subjects, but nothing worse than Harry Potter.

Since you don't really seem to have a problem with stuff on Keenspot, I'd recommend Alice (www.alicecomics.com). It's very funny--the only problem is that it never updates.
