Project Wonderful & Comic Space Update

An advertising industry site, ClickZ, covers Ryan North's Project Wonderful. As PW grows it certainly has the potential to pull in a wider variety of advertisers which will help bring more money into webcomics (as opposed to concerns that it's just shuffling it around).

Two things from the article: one who is the other person in Ryan North's "two man operation"? and two, excuse a moment of jealousy from me as my mind boggles at Josh Roberts' expectation to clear $1000 this month from ads on Comicspace.com. Wow.

A small favor: If you read/write/support Comixpedia tag your comicspace.com account with "comixpedia" - all of us will show up here.

I appreciate how honest and

I appreciate how honest and transparent the system is. Even if the profit is about the same as adsense for most people, I feel more connected to my advertisers and it doesn't rely on BS like clickthroughs. Advertisment is about getting your name out there. An advertiser only paying when someone actually clicks on the ad is ridiculous.

For a medium to small

Scott Story's picture

For a medium to small webcomic, the profit is about the same as Google Adsense or being an Amazon affiliate. Maybe it will pick up, it's still new.

I have no idea how Project

I have no idea how Project Wonderful actually works or what the benefits will be long term. $1000 a month? Yeah, okay. But your joe average webcomic isn't gonna make anywhere near that amount on a process that seems pretty much like "ebaying" advertising and someone can bid as little as possible and win as opposed to paying a set advertising rate. Again, that is if I'm understanding the process right. But PW is a great way to follow where some of your comics audience is coming from. Some o the sites they show referring to GAAK is like "Who knew?" G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures It's like The Goonies meets The Invaders from Mars. Updates on Mondays.

Maybe, but with 16 small

Maybe, but with 16 small ads, each ad only needs to sell for 2 USD to make 1000 in a month. As long as he can keep people visiting in large numbers, that shouldn't be a problem.

I don't have much to add

I don't have much to add other then to say I like the system.

True I suppose, but I'd argue that it is pretty decent for a site that's just appeared and is being developed.
