Schlock Leaves Keenspot

Schlock Mercenary by Howard Tayler has left the Keenspot network to go independent. Not much explanation from Tayler on his website as to why although he does mention some dissatisfaction with some of the ads on Keenspot.

  1. Out of courtesy to my friends and business partners at Keenspot, I decided not to air any of the issues we’d discussed privately. As I pointed out in the Open Letter, it wouldn’t reflect well on any of us, and it’s all irrelevant to the people who matter — the READERS.

I prefer at this point to focus on the positive aspects of the move, from readers’ perspectives: faster load times, less intrusive and less objectionable advertising, and earlier updates.

I’ve already seen a MASSIVE uptick in archive-surfing. Apparently the faster loading has encouraged people to go re-read their favorite storylines again. According to Webalyzer and Alexa, page-views were up almost 300%, with no noticable spike in unique IPs or Visitors.

  2. If by surprising you mean totally expected then yes.

Of course the internet has completely destroyed my ability to detect irony.

Um. I’ve just clicked on Strip Search and got Cannot find server, just like last week. I’ll try again later.

  4. Strip search is maintained and hosted by fans — I can’t vouch for that server, I’m afraid.
