I'm ten pages from the end of
The War at Ellsmere, which makes me really happy (128 pages since January, a big jump up from the nine months it took me to do 96 pages of
Zombies Calling). I've been working on it full-time since the end of May, when an animation project that was supposed to start in June got pushed back to ... oh, god knows. Latest I've heard is September. Anyway, we shan't dwell on that. Since I was waiting around for "real work" to start, I thought I'd try and see what it was like to be a "real comic book artist" and worked on a set daily schedule, taking weekends off, just seeing what it'd be like if I ever got a chance to do this full time.
After some loneliness at the beginning, I think I settled into the routine fairly well. I still kind of miss the studio and the people and the set division between work and home life, but now that I'm used to it, I kind of like drawing from home. Although I think I need a separate room for the drawing thing if I was ever able to make a permanent go of this ... I don't like drawing in the living room, because that's also where I relax and do DDR, and it feels like I'm "at work" all the time. But the missing people thing hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be, with knitting and pilates and seeing friends on the weekend.
Honestly, at this point I don't really know what I want exactly. Both worlds (animation and comics) have upsides and downsides. At the moment I'm just grateful I have options, and have been given the chance to do both.
... and now back to zee comics. Ten pages left! How great is that? I'm going to make my deadlines and everything. I'm certainly not the best cartoonist in the bunch, but I'm proud of how hard I can work, and how I can usually make my deadlines. Go me! *flexes like michael phelps*
