The end of the year is coming and I'm working on getting in place articles for the site for December. One thing we've done for a few years running now that I'm trying to set up again is a roundtable discussion of the year that was. Participants in past roundtables have been mainly bloggers and journalists writing about (web)comics although there's no hard and fast rules about it. If anyone has any suggestions on commentators to invite to participate (I'm always interested in adding new voices to the mix for these roundtable articles) post a comment here.
Another thing we've done annually is our annual People Of Webcomics article listing the top 25 contributors to webcomics during the past year. We'll have another edition of that next month. I'm looking for as broad as input as possible and webcomics is a tremendously wide field to cover. If you have ideas about who has contributed significantly to webcomics in 2007 post a comment here with the name and some discussion of what merits their recognition. The point of the list is not really to be an "award" but a way to talk about the exciting developments of the last year and put a spotlight on the people involved with them. Check out past editions of the list to see who we've included previously (and why): 2006; 2005; and 2004.

Re: The End of the Year is Coming
One idea: a roundtable about the progress of comics and community service. Shaenon Garrity, Robert Anke, and Mike Rouse-Deane would be good for that topic. I'd also be willing to participate.
For People of Webcomics, I nominate Mike Rouse-Deane. His Kid's Book Project and other charity projects have really improved the public image of webcomics, as well as translated online popularity into real world assistance. He also started publishing Webcomics Anonymous.

J. D. "Illiad" Frazer of UserFriendly.org is someone I read everyday. He maintains a high quality DAILY strip complete with a color Sunday section. Sometimes his Sunday section is a game. I think he is a significant contributor for reasons of longevity and consistency.
Another person of interest for me is Gisele Lagase of PennyandAggie.com and CoolCatStudio.com. This year she has quit her "real job" to devote 100% of her time to her two strips. That is a significant change right there. Add to that the fact that you can download much of the history of Penny and Aggie and Cool Cat Studio as .PDFs from wowio.com and you have a lot to discuss.
I know a lot of people don't like wowio.com, but it did allow me to learn who the people were in Penny and Aggie and in Cool Cat Studio. I had learned of Penny and Aggie last year but did not have to patience to wade through the entire history online. the .PDF allowed me to read the early history and understand what the current strips were all about. I haven't missed one since.
Those are the only two strips I read with regularity. I sometimes drop in to read Cameron Stewart's "Sin Titulo" and even rarer will visit PVP.
Re: The End of the Year is Coming
I agree It might be interesting to have some people who have turned comics into their full time job Gisele is one as well as Danielle Corsetto of http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html

I'd add Ryan Estrada to the list; he's done a lot of great things for the community, and his day of guest strips was impressive and memorable.

If we're looking at niche markets, Ivan Pope from boot_error fame started Graff this year which is hitting the graffitti artist market.
