Stop the insanity!!! Ok, all drunkass actor/drunkass superhero type casting jokes aside, this has got to be the worst casting of a lead in a superhero movie since Ben Affleck stunk up the place as DareDevil, or Keanu Reeves was miscast as Constantine. Ask yourself this, what's the last movie you saw because Downey Jr. was in it? An easier question is what was the last movie you avoided like the plague because Downey jr was in it? This is bad. Very bad. Dee - GAAK writer dude

I can't get worked up about
I can't get worked up about this sort of thing. There is so much that can go wrong with a super hero movie (apart from the casting), I'll go with the flow until it hits the screen and I can make a decision based on the results.
I remember people saying Toby MacGuire was a poor choice for Spiderman but, in the end, "the kid done good"! Oh, and I know I'm in a minority but I liked Ben Affleck in DD, too.

Robert Downey Jr. is an
Robert Downey Jr. is an excellent actor; he'll be great. All he needs is a goatee. So what if he's not your typical leading man. He's been terrific in Good Night and Good Luck, Chaplin, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and a ton of other movies.
Just think of the emotional depth and realism Downey will bring to part two, when Tony turns into a raging drunk.
This was inspired casting, if you ask me.
I have no hate for Affleck
I have no hate for Affleck as Daredevil, and it seems like he did a pretty good job. I'm not a big Ben Affleck fan, nor a hater.
Superhero movie casting is usually so flawed that I don't need to cough up examples of when they really screwed up.Â
Sometimes they get it right, though, like in Batman Begins or X-Men.Â

Casting
I tend to agree, Scott. I think the worst examples of super hero films have usually failed because of the story, the script and the plotting rather than the cast.
To the extent I can get wound up about this kind of thing at all (which is not very much!), I have far greater reservations about Joss Whedon writing the Wonder Woman movie than I do about whether Downey will make a good Iron Man or whether Ledger can be maniacal enough to eclipse Nicholson's Joker.

Article on Marvel Doing Its Own Movies
I just read this Times bit on Marvel - it seems they're financing their own movies now with all of their (arguably) B-list characters (Hulk, Iron-Man to start). The downside is if the movies bomb they lose the movie rights to those characters (that's what it seemed to say anyhow).
I kind of wonder if Iron Man will turn out to be a decent movie but a box-office bust. That's my WAG on it anyhow.

On second thought, let's not go to Comixpedia. It is a silly place.
