Webcomic-friendly conventions

Who's going to Wizard World Chicago?

Anybody going to be there? Stop by and say "hi!"

I'll be at table 3135B in Artist's Alley, right next to fellow movie webcomickers Tom Brazelton and Joe Dunn.

I'll be bringing:

• A 48-page portfolio of Multiplex strips (not for sale); it's just printed out on a laser printer, but I figured I should at least bring some for people to read, even though I don't have any comics to sell this year. I just read through it to check for any errors, and I love that you can see every little detail in the print-outs, as opposed to them being on the web.

Live Comic-Con Coverage = Ratings Gold for G4TV

From Multichannel News: Another big cable Kahuna at ComicCon was G4...The young male-targeted network broadcast a live two-hour special from the convention floor on Friday, July 21. It aired two additional one-hour specials on Monday and Tuesday (July 23 and 24)... The net combed the con floor to report on indie comic books and toy companies. The payoff was big: for the Friday special. In the young-male target demo of 18-34, viewership jumped 184% for the time period. It was G4’s second-highest-rated special this year (the first being their live E3 coverage, I assume). The week of July 17 became the channel’s highest-rated in history.

San Diego Comic Con -Thursday (photos)

Things are starting to rev up for the big attendence spike on Saturday and I still haven't managed to walk the entire floor - a feat I plan to accomplish today.

Here is a photo gallery of things seen on Thursday:

The Big Con: Day One. (SDCC)

Day One: Thursday.

I woke later this morning after Preview Night. The night without fans, overwhelming as hell and rows upon rows of exhibits. This is not a small Con, this is the big game Con.

Deciding to arrive later today, instead of braving against early morning traffic and long lines into the convention center, I arrived downtown. Downtown I learned an important lesson: Get a hotel by the center, you moron. Parking was impossible. An hour after arriving downtown we parked and trekked to the Con.

The Big Con (Comic Con)

After 6 hours of traveling to San Diego, I find myself face-to-face with the one Con to rule them all. I have embarked on a journey to the center of Geekdom. I have traveled to the end of the continent to...The San Diego Comic Con.

Tonight I will pick up my official 4-day badge and venture into the preview night. Traffic will be horrible, but it is worth the pain. They bait people with the satisfaction that there "may not" be as many fans tonight. I laugh at their optimism. Tonight, I face bliss of the comic world and then some.

Comic Theory at ComicCon

Going to the San Diego Comic-Con International? Interested in Comic Theory? Well, then, mark your calendar for Friday, because lots is happening...Â
