My laziness is costing me money and readers...

A number of years ago I was confirmed as the 'Cardinal of Procrastination' in the Dogbert New Ruling Class and recently I've been earning that title in spades. Maybe it's a bit of techno-fear that has been keeping me from getting my comics off of Comicgenesis and onto a space that I control, but the time is coming soon.

For what it is; Comicgenesis is pretty cool actually. They don't demand much from you and they let you do a good deal of what you want with the space they give you. I like their services with a few notable exceptions of late.

1. I don't like the addition of popup ads. It cheapens my comic and makes me look bad to my readers.

2. I do not like the amount of time they've been down recently. Overall this is a small amount; however, when they have a problem it's usually a big one. When you're trying to hold an event or hype something on a particular week and then find out that the thing you’re trying to hype is down, it's a hard thing to take.

3. They don't let you know when they're having a problem, you have no chance to prepare you readers for an outage planned or let people know that your service is having a problem. They do almost all of their contact through forums and the problem was such recently that I couldn't even log in to try and get in touch with them.

4. They don't usually write you back at all. This isn't normally a problem, and I understand with the volume they must encounter; however, that being said many places manage to get back to you in some reasonable amount of time. They are responsive though; once you've reported a problem it usually magically goes away, so perhaps there's a strong argument for not responding and doing more fixing instead. I'm happy to concede on this issue.

Frankly I should just get on with it and get with the comicpress/ wordpress revolution. That way whatever happens will be my own damn fault unless the internet is laid low by a squirrel or some other woodland creature again.
