Shades of xkcd! Wellington Grey arguably doesn't create comics so much as flowcharts, but whatever, they're often extremely funny and remarkably insightful. A few favorites include:

HEADLINES
- Scott McCloud's brilliant The Right Number is now free (previously it was available for purchase through Bitpass). Go read, enjoy and then email Scott to encourage him to finish it.
- I haven't seen more updates on the cease&desist style letters from Todd Goldman's attorneys that FLEEN reported on recently, but it does seem clear that the immediate effect has been to revive the Todd Goldman Copied Dave Kelly's Artwork story and spread news of it well beyond the world of (web)comics. UPDATE: Cartoon Brew has an up-to-the-minute, snark-filled update on Todd Goldman.

Business
- Ka-Blam, the print-on-demand printer specializing in comics, moves into new office space seven times their old, replaces their old press with three new ones, and hires more staff. The POD business seems to be going well.
- I had no idea there existed an unofficial Project Wonderful blog and forum. Here's one post discussing the costs of ads.
Project Wonderful's prices are low, but I don't think most users realize just how low they actually are. I did some comparisons between ads on PW sites and other similar ads sold through conventional channels, and the results are pretty clear: the same ad space sold through PW will command a much lower price.

- Time magazine covers webcomics. Penny Arcade, PvP, Achewood, and Diesel Sweeties gets ink (errr... pixels?).

- Wizard interviews Scott Sava, creator of The Dreamland Chronicles. Sava put out an ambiguous press release recently stating that he had reached the one million reader mark. This interview touches on that and although the answer is still slightly ambiguous it appears that Sava has about 6000-8000 daily readers of his webcomic.

- A write-up in the NYTimes of a movie based on Marjane Satrapi's best-selling and critically praised comic-book memoir, Persepolis. The animated movie, filmed in France (and in French) will be released in America this year. Interestingly, it was animated entirely in France and Satrapi herself directed the film.

Mike Lacroix is a cartoonist, blogger and finely-tuned athlete. He's currently working on his third webcomic, the appropriately titled Foxy Lollop. His previous efforts include the long-running Gluemeat (since 2001) and the underground classic, Aren't We Real. Lacroix and myself were both founding members of the pioneering, but short-lived webcomics collective ALTBRAND.
Comixpedia's People Of Webcomics List For 2006
It's the third annual Comixpedia People Of Webcomics List. This was the hardest one yet to compile. There's a lot of webcomics and a lot of people doing interesting things in and around webcomics. This list, as in past years, is an odd effort to compare apples and oranges: artistic achievement, audience popularity, technical achievement, business savvy, news-making impact all go into the mix.
