Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on March 20, 2007 - 11:40
Busy news week already - don't forget to check out all of the articles from March's Short Story Issue (and we added some articles to February's Webcomic Collectives Issue this month as well). Next month's issue will cover science fiction themes - if you are interested in writing for the magazine drop me an email (xerexes AT comixpedia DOT com).
INTERVIEWS
- FLEEN interviews Jennie Breeden, creator of The Devil's Panties.
- T Campbell has posted audio interviews with 3 creators: Evil Inc creator Brad Guigar; Chris Hastings of Dr. McNinja; and Andrea L. Peterson of No Rest For the Wicked.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- It's great to see non-webcomics critics discovering Sinfest: Journalista! linked to one today and Comics Worth Reading recently declared Sinfest "My New Favorite Webcomic". If there's any webcomic that should be in the daily newpaper right now I'd nominate Sinfest. Sure, many of the strips in the archives would not work on the newspaper page but creator Tatsuya Ishida has shown the ability to work within PG limitations. If Ishida could get a deal like R. Stevens' has with Diesel Sweeties there's no question Sinfest could be a huge success in the newspapers.
- Comics212 catches Comic Book Resources columnist Rich Johnson using a piece of Jim Zubkavich artwork as part of a story on a supposedly in-the-works animated Shazam! series. Trouble is that Zubkavich's artwork is simply an illustration he posted on his LiveJournal recently.
- The Daily Cross Hatch has an interview with Bone creator and Captain Marvel artist/writer Jeff Smith.
- Is FLEEN insinuating that Michael Bay is plagiarizing Jon Rosenberg's Goats? I'm a fairly big fan of Goats but I don't think Rosenberg is going to be able to sue anyone for copying ideas like ancient prophecies, end-of-the-world scenarios or even multiple dimensions. But man I would totally pay to see a Rosenberg-scripted movie.
Webcomics - thoughts!
Submitted by Von Allan on March 8, 2007 - 16:39
I've long chewed over serializing the road to god knows... as a webcomic ever since I initially conceived the idea back in late 2004 (god, it's been so long...). Webcomics have certainly come a long way, too, but I'm primarily interested in those that have a "comic book feel" to them. Not so much the strip formated ones like Goats et al. Anyway, I keep going back and forth about it and I'd love to hear thoughts on this front.
I-CON 26 - Stony Brook NY

AWARDS
- The new schedule for the WCCAs means the nominations will be released this week. I've posted the nominees for Best Comic and Best Newcomer in the post below. It does feel odd to call these the 2007 WCCAs though as they are aimed at recognizing webcomics published in 2006.
BUSINESS
- Missed this but Goats creator, Jon Rosenberg wrote a short bit on the end of Bitpass. Rosenberg was not a fan of micropayments, including Bitpass.
- An update on the Scott Kurtz Outreach to Syndicated Cartoonists Project: the Daily Cartoonist reports that Scott Kurtz is talking with Arlo and Janis creator Jimmy Johnson.
Dead Trees
- Boing Boing blog had a good post on the latest Doonesbury book, Heckuva Job, Bushie! I've been trying to include more coverage of comic strips in Comixpedia as all of them are online and some of their creators, including Gerry Trudeau, are very web-savvy.
- Blogger and Sci-Fi author Cory Doctorow released his latest book, Overclocked, under a creative commons license (he always does this actually) and Martin Cendreda made a mini-comic of one of the stories called "Printcrime". It's available for download here.
JUSTIFY MY HYPE
- A.D. New Orleans After the Deluge is a new webcomic about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina published at Smith magazine.
- A webcomic adaptation of the novel 1984. So far pretty interesting work.

A Piece of Webcomics History
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on December 13, 2006 - 10:49
Jon Rosenberg is auctioning off the original art for Goats #1 (published way back on April 1, 1997). It may sound pretentious to say this, but I expect this will be considered a piece of history in years to come.
News and Dues for December 1, 2006

Let's thank all of the great current Comixpedia sponsors. Financially, Comixpedia is on much better footing than it was for most of the year. Our current sponsors include Delerium's New Album, Nuages du Monde; PhotoContest2006.com, an art and photo competition; and the webcomics Alma Mater, I See You, Witchthorn, and Things Change.
Our December cover art from Tom Siddell, creator of GunnerKrigg Court, is up. GunnerKrigg Court won the WCCA Outstanding Newcomer award for 2006 and is a great new comic so please go check it out.
