Wow, thanks William. Don't worry man, they ignored me too. perhaps you can join me in my attempt to build a race of atomic supermen to strike back at the very world which scorns me. Then again, I'll probably just draw another page. I'm unmotivated for world domination and the whole revenge thing. I'll leave that for DJ. and Joey. :)
I'm just curious when the WCCA is going to announce a "Best Movie Comic" category. We're growing in numbers! I mean, if Comixpedia dedicated a whole month to movies in web comics and Zoinks! Magazine can do the same, why not? It's not any more out of place than "Best Video Game" comic.Â
It'll be before they announce "Best Adult Audience" catagory, that's for sure. But hey, as long as the furries continue to have thier own catagory everyone is happy.
Thanks, William and Tony for supporting Fetus-X for Outstanding Romantic Comic. I am honored and flattered that so many other webcomic artists believe in and support what I am doing with Fetus-X.
I'd also like to congratulate all of the other nominees and wish them the best. It's great to see so many of my favorite comics and artists also nominated. I'd give you all high-fives but my zombie arm would probably kill you.
It does seem like the nominations are based on popularity and who you know. Isn't it somewhere in the rules that in order to be part of the committee, you have to be a creator or writer or somehow involved in the creations of comics? And if so, why not nominate your own creation?
Seems like before the final nominations are announced and voted on, all samples of everything nominated should be seen. Much like the Academy getting copies of movies.Â

As far I know, you can quite merrily nominate yourself. I dont think there's anyone who hasn't done it. If you make it to the final round, that just means others agree with your self-assessment.
And while a comic someone may have heard of will have a better chance of being remembered when everyone is trying to think of three webcomics to nominate, than one that isn't, it's an unfortunate problem with the web being as huge as it is. It's just impossible to know what's out there.
Guys like DJ Coffman and Rob Balder are pretty good at the marketing thing, so search out their advice if you feel a comic is under the radar.
But, as someone said elsewhere, if it were a popularity contest, it'd be Penny Arcade winning in every category. Including ones it doesn't fit in.
And look at those nominations. Sure there are a number of popular webcomics, but a lot of them are anything but. The idea of the WCCAs, as I see it, is to have your peers tell you they think you done good. And if one sees a need to have a comic better exposed because it was overlooked this year, then get out there and start getting in everyone's faces.
I'm pretty certain my comic got it's nomination because I wrote a silly "Why I Deserve A Million WCCAs" article here a while back as a way to draw more readers. But it must have stuck in people's minds, because there Bang Barstal is, winning the Outstanding Superhero/ Action category this year over Smithson, Magellan and those other comics... heh heh
I'll just have to wait, I guess, for the category "Best minimalist talking-head quasi-political animated-cartoon humor". I'm already the winner: Google Says So

Outstanding newcomer...
...means new comic and not new creator? I didn't know that.
"Outsanding New Series" would be a better name.

Oops...
A couple of minor typos. Should be Daedalus, not Daedelus, Talismen:, not Talisman, and Smithson and Synchronicity should be two separate entries.
I should have caught the spelling errors sooner. I blame Dubya.
Fixed Smithson/Synch
Fixed the smithson/synchronicity error - not sure I caught the other typos you mentioned.Â

I think you and I see eye-to-eye on the futility of creating genre-specific "Best of" category. Where does one draw the line?Â
