Dewclaw Hits Year Four

Congrats to Matt Johnson, the creator of Dewclaw which is in its fourth year on the web. Ironically, it sounds like Johnson now will move away from the serialized flash webcomics format he has used online with Dewclaw to focus on the print, full-color comicbook version of his tale.

While dewclaw is best known for being an early example of a Flash webcomic, the story is in fact more important to me. I used Flash originally, not only to push the envelope, but because it was a creative environment I was very adept in. Over the years, this has attracted both praise and criticism – sometimes at the same time.

Because dewclaw is about the story, not the format, time has come for me to change direction with dewclaw. During the past few years, the one form of dewclaw that has attracted the most praise has been the print stories I’ve generated. It has become increasingly clear to me that this is the best format for the story.

So, I’m starting over.

While there are three or four installments I’ll add to the current story arc, the era of dewclaw as a Flash comic is essentially over.
