Formerly a popular feature for the acclaimed book website, Bookslut, Gordon McAlpin’s Stripped Books webcomic can now be found at its new home, StrippedBooks.com.
Although the site was unofficially launched in mid-July, the first StrippedBooks.com-exclusive installment has just been added to the site. In a slight departure from its usual format of adapting author appearances into comics form, the new “Stripped Book” covers the “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” release party thrown by Chicago’s 57th St. Books on July 15th, and features appearances by Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Professor Severus Snape, and other Hogwarts faculty members, as played by a cast of volunteers and 57th St. Books/Seminar Co-op employees. This new comic features a painted cover by Libby VanderPloeg (parodying Mary Grandpré’s “Half-Blood Prince” cover), with interiors written and illustrated by Gordon McAlpin.
Previous installments of Stripped Books have featured Marjane Satrapi (“Persepolis”), the best-selling children’s book team of Jon Scieszka & Lane Smith (“The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Stories”), Stephen Mitchell (“Gilgamesh: A New English Version”), Gary Shteyngart (“The Russian Debutante’s Handbook”) & Jeffrey Eugenides (“Middlesex”), and Neil Gaiman (“Sandman,” “American Gods”).
ABOUT STRIPPED BOOKS
“Stripped Books” is a non-fiction webcomic by writer-artist Gordon McAlpin covering book-related events in comics form.
Also featured at the Stripped Books site are “Multiplex” (http://multiplex.strippedbooks.com), a weekly humor strip about a group of kids working at a movie theater, and several other stand-alone comics and cartoons — some previously published, others exclusive to the site. You can also sign up for the Stripped Books mailing list to be notified when a new installment of Stripped Books has been added. (Please note that the mailing list is only sent when a new Stripped Books is posted, not when Multiplex or any other strips are added.)
