The accompanying news and even sometimes the comics themselves delve into facts about stuff appearing in the comic, often about Antarctica and its creatures but even touching on other more generic topics that come up.
Now the comic is being featured as actual lesson plans to be used by teachers in classrooms throughout the US. The projects include altering dialogue of the comics, filling in blank comic frames and even (get this, you digital creators will like this one) cut and pasting a comic together into existing frames. The aim of projects like this is to exercise creativity in the students and use comics to encourage reading and writing.
