  1. Not to be an asshole, but:

“Athena Voltaire is an action-adventure strip comparable to Indiana Jones without being cliche. Athena Voltaire is a daredevil aviatrix who has been hired by some British occultists to undertake an expedition to get them to the top of Mt. Everest before Nazi Germans do. At the top is a monastery wherein lies an old magic that both the occultists and the Nazi’s want. However, an ancienct evil awaits them at the peak as well.”

is the funniest paragraph I’ve ever read.

  2. Naah, you’re not an asshole, John.

I’ve never heard of anyone reviewing a review, though. You’re certainly blazing new trails in that regard, at least.

I felt that Sheena did a great job encapsulating the gist of the story–while staying within the limitations of her target word count.

The premise of a number of stories can sound pretty ridiculous when taken on their own:

“Teenage girl discovers she has super powers and, with the help of her classmates, saves the world from vampires, demons and various undead monsters repeatedly while balancing her social calendar.”

“Two young superpowered criminals find themselves involved in the plans of a larger-than-life media mogul as he tries to do the impossible—take over the world!”

Alone, the premises sound pretty lame, but it’s the execution that makes them worthwhile entertainment.

Additionally, I know that we’re working in familiar territory with Athena Voltaire, but I hope that the execution of what we’re doing makes for an interesting and entertaining ride. We’re not trying to change comics, we’re just trying to entertain.

I’m grateful that Sheena liked the strip as much as she did (9 out of 10) and that the other Tarts (Trisha Sebastian, Deanna Lytle) who have reviewed as have felt just as strongly (ratings of 9 and 8, respectively).
