Image Comics puts out comic books and has posted several issues of said comic books online for free browsing, including issue #5 of the Dork Storm Press run of PVP. I guess you can consider this the equivalent of the early days of comic books where they were mostly comprised of reprints of newspaper comic strips. Or shovelware. Still I’m not going to complain about free.

I would definitely check out the PVP issue – it’s a decent parody of the Matrix film (called “the COMIX”) but it also throws in great bits about Scott McCloud, syndication stagnation, online comic freedom and even some bits about what makes a comic a comic (the characters step out of the panels into the gutters…).
I’m really excited to have PvP #5 posted on the Image comics site so that new Image Comics readers can get a taste of what PvP is all about.
I think it’s a great idea, and PvP deserves every new reader that it gets this way. However, I’m most impressed that Image got the rights to reprint, for free, and issue that they weren’t even the original publisher of. Whatever works, I suppose.
Will the new Image books be all new single story issues like the Dork Storm run or will they include reprints of the web daily strips?
