It's true according to T Campbell, who's written in The Beat about his own dealings with Wowio.

On a related note, Brian Kirstin has a bone to pick with Wowio over their unwritten content-policy. (Link from Rich Johnston's CBR column.)

My partner and I published GAAK with Steve Horton and his Smashout Comics on Wowio. The whole situation is sad. Particularly since Platinum Comics showed up and just the mere mention of that name scares everyone away. Not that Wowio didn't have it's prolems with late payments before. But it's association with Platinum is the real kiss of doom.

Sad too. Wowio was one of the few places we indy comic folks could make money with our comics.
