Writing Better User Blog Posts to Hype Your Own Projects – UPDATED

I've noticed a lot of hype blog posts are not that informative. I don't have much (any?) time to edit user blog posts to get them up to front page-worthy status, but I can hand out some advice on how to write successful front page-worthy hype about your projects from the get go. Follow the advice below and I think you'll find many more of your posts hitting the front page:

THERE ARE VERY FEW TIMES YOU NEED TO POST MORE THAN ONE BLOG POST A DAY HYPING YOUR PROJECTS (Non-hype news posts don't fall under this rule). EITHER SPREAD YOUR HYPE OUT OVER A NUMBER OF DAYS OR COMBINE IT INTO A JUMBO-POST. Make sure your lead para.touches on all of the things you want to hype. COMIXPEDIA is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY TO PROMOTE MORE THAN ONE HYPE POST PER USER PER DAY (MORE REALISTICALLY – PER WEEK).

Title Should Capitalize Every Word And Contain The Title Of Your Webcomic/Project (Or At Least Reference It In A Witty Way).

Write your posts in the third person. It might seem weird for me to write "Xaviar Xerexes just posted the 10th installment of his new webcomic Wack It Good" but it's a lot more informative to the readers then if you don't identify yourself. Comixpedia news is syndicated at Thewebcomiclist and Comixpedia.org and goes out in RSS feeds and you want to make sure the post works in every environment.

Have something really interesting to post about (note having 10 strips of a comic ain't that much…) and lead the post with that. Don't have something interesting about your comic to post about? Be creative, for example, link your comic to something interesting in the news. Next don't assume people reading here know a thing about your comic (even if you post here every week, don't assume it). After the lead (the hook really) give people your best description of your comic – make them want to click the link to it.

It's also nice visually to add some graphics to your post (you'll have to host them elsewhere but you can include them in your posts here). A good idea is to include a smaller-size graphic at the front of your post like this one from DAJB or this one from Brian Moore (promoting the latest installment of Smithson. Also webcomic titles at Comixpedia go in italics.) so that it will appear on the front page of Comixpedia (larger graphics are going to get pushed down a front-paged story and won't appear unless readers click read more).

The better your posts are the easier it is for me to front page them without hesitation. (I should also add that I try to keep the front page of Comixpedia Safe For Work)
