And Homestar Runner is there again this year…. why does the sad clown of life torment me so?
It’s tormenting me, too. JACK?!
I give. I don’t understand the webcomics community at all. Or anything, for that matter.
Looks like Reman mythology is this years lightningbolt from a partialy cloudy sky.
Now, now.. if you don’t like it, you don’t have to vote for it. But at least it’s a webcomic! 🙂
Even Gabe pointed out how weird it is that Penny Arcade was nominated for best website design.
I think the PA’s design is very good. The problem is that neither Gabe or Tycho designed it.
I think that’s the problem. Homestar Runner is not a webcomic. It’s a webtoon.
Big difference.
That’s a pretty fair point. I wonder if the organizers of the CCAs have verified that they’re nominating the right people for that award.
But is Penny Arcade nominated, or Jerry & Mike?
Agreed, I’d go as far as to say that she is likely to get my vote in most (if not all) the categories she’s been nominated for.
I don’t know the specifics, but I’m guessing they contributed elements. I mean, G&T may not have hand-coded the thing, but they may have designed graphics, or at very least said “here’s what we’d like our page to look like” with a barebones layout in Word.
Yeah, I’m pretty much shooting in the dark here. I didn’t sign up to nominate anyone, so I don’t know the rules. Maybe it’s not a problem that the design isn’t coded by the same people that run the comic, afterall.
But if it isn’t, it only makes this category even more useless. I mean, what’s the point in awarding someone who has nothing to do with webcomics at all?
The look and feel of a webcomic site can be as important as the webcomic itself — it can really affect the reader experience, and thus, is very much webcomic-related.
If I didn’t feel it’s important I wouldn’t spend so much time and effort on mine, Damonk. But to me it’s a little unfair that webcartoonists struggling to code their own pages have to run against professional webdesigners (I have no idea if the girl who designed PA is a professional, but still…).
If you want to award cartoonists for presenting a beautiful design, fine. But webdesigners already have contests of their own, thankyouverymuch.
Heck, I changed my mind. It’s not unfair. Forget what I said.
I am speechless. Thank you for the support, guys…!
I think some PA fans are so rabid that they’ll nominate Penny Arcade for every category that even seems plausible. Not that there’s anything wrong with that if they honestly like PA that much, but the design seems a bit pedestrian to me (shrug).
Amy’s been putting out some good stuff this year. She deserves it far more than “Xbox Joke Of The Day”.
