  1. Are there a lot of people holding a grudge against a free comic hosting site? Go figure…

Yep, Drunk Duck is back and it looks like it’s a bit improved over it’s previous incarnation.

Users can create accounts with multiple comics and post pages within the span of a few minutes. Several Drunk Duck members have created some smashing templates that users who don’t like or know HTML coding can use.

One of the biggest changes will eventually be to the main page. There are 3 different ways the comics are being listed and we’re hoping for a more community driven method of doing the news and reviews.

The forums are ticking along quite nicely, and something new seems to pop up every day.

  2. Are there a lot of people holding a grudge against a free comic hosting site? Go figure…

It helps if those free comics being hosted don’t get obliterated by poor management. We’re assuming you’re taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Because it really can’t be helping your business model. But hey, we’re hopeful that lessons have been learned, otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered to post the news.

  3. As explained before, Drunk Duck was hosted by Geekside, which guaranteed a full backup of the site. And this backup would have been fine if Geekside hadn’t decided to disband and ignore Drunk Duck’s request for the backup files for several weeks so that the people who were backing up Geekside deleted all the files including the coding to run the site.

Is that poor management, or just trust in a service that SEEMED fine until the end? I suppose we can critisize anything with 20/20 hindsight.

The new host seems to be more reliable, but time will tell.

Also, Volte6 has added the feature so that the users can create a zipped file of all of their comics and their template, so that if Drunk Duck goes down again, it can be unpacked and reinstated – assuming they have a saved zip file on their harddrive.

But hey, you might have found this all out before posting the article with a particularly cynical bent, but why would you? Better to put out a backhanded announcement than to have any facts in place.

  4. As a citizen of the webcomics world, this is a joyous moment for many of us.

So, why mar it with such a cynical attitude? I’ve been a long time Drunk Duck user, and much of this distaste for Drunk Duck I’ve spotted all over the web doesn’t seem to make sense and is, quite honestly, unfair.

It just seems bothersome that such good news can be delivered with such a bitter and unjust tone.

But, to each his own, where one may see this news as an opportunity for a particularly snarky comment, others may just see it for what it is; great news for comic creators and readers all over the web.

You know what, I thought about it, and I agree with your statements. It’s unfair of me to make sarcastic comments in news posts. I’ve altered the news post to reflect simply news, and nothing else.

Sorry for the unnecessary commentary. Chalk it up to a bad day at the office.
