Schedule your own hype/chat events @talkaboutcomics chat!

Talkaboutcomics, the free forum site for small press and webcomics creators run by Joey Manley, is opening up its 24/7 Nightstar Network IRC chat channel to other cartoonists and creators who wish to host their own live events.

Manley said, “We’re hoping it will work sort of like a 24/7 webcomics convention, with press briefings, interviews, panel sessions, book club meetings — whatever people want to do.” The channel will have no sponsorship or membership requirements, according to Manley. “It’s just a service. Nightstar was kind enough to grant us use of their servers — we’re extending our invitation in the same spirit of community-building that Nightstar has shown to us.”

There are two ways to get into the channel:

1. Using a web browser with java support, you can just go to:

http://www.nightstar.net/chat.php?channel=talkaboutcomics&connect=true

2. If you’d rather use a standard IRC client, like mIRC, you can find the addresses of the nightstar servers here:

http://www.nightstar.net/

If you go this route, you’ll need to log onto the #talkaboutcomics channel after signing into nightstar.

Events on the chat channel will be scheduled “like a ‘talk radio’ network.” If you’re interested in having a one-time chat or a recurring spot on the schedule email Joey Manley with your request. (Modern Tales has every workday from 12 noon Eastern to 1pm Eastern time locked up for its own events, and AdventureStrips.com has similarly locked up every workday from 9pm Eastern to 10pm Eastern but right now other times are mostly available).

It’s free and there’s no advertising or sponsorship going on. Just a service. Suggestions:

1. Releasing a new book? Have a press conference in the chat room.

2. Want to increase your profile as a comics journalist, or generate content for your print or webzine? Interview a cartoonist in the chat room.
