When a Niche Audience Isn’t Enough

Zachary Stroum, the creator of Shaw Island, is considering taking a break from webcomics. He notes that he’s been creating webcomics since 1999 (practically the beginning of time for webcomics).

He wrote a pretty thoughtful post on how he wants to make a living from making comics, and what his options might be to get from where he is now to where he wants to be.

There are a couple different solutions to this, so that I can keep drawing comics. Either I can ask you guys for a salary, or I can take the same large chunks of time I’m using to work on this comic, and develop something that would hit the proverbial ball out of the park so that I can eventually do this for a living.
