An interesting essay by comics writer Neil Gaiman on the relationship of film to comics and how computer-aided effects have altered that relationship somewhat. It also covers how Alan Moore has taken his name off of all the film projects based on his work in comics, including soon-to-be released V For Vendetta.
Ben Adams is the creator of Misfit’s Journey which is an autobiographical tale with 3d art. He has been placing ads with non-webcomics websites where he thinks the audience would become fans of his webcomic. In another post, he further explains his thinking about where his webcomic’s appeal may lie.
A no-brainer perhaps, but one all creators should think about before spending money on advertising. I have no data to back it up but it doesn’t seem farfetched to believe that there are still a lot more potential readers out there that haven’t heard of webcomics at all then are actively reading them today.
If you didn’t make it to the first New York Comic-con all reports are that it was very well attended – so much so that the fire marshall was turning folks away at the door.

The Categories for the 2006 Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards have been finalized. So now’s your chance to start thinking about which comics you believe should be nominated in each category for their performance during the previous year. This list can also be currently found at the WCCA website.
Broken Voice Comics, a new website created by the former Senior Editor of Midnite Comics, is being readied for an official launch at the end of March 2006. Midnite Comics itself has been shut down since the New Year when its forum was hacked. The rest of the Midnite Comics site crashed shortly thereafter and, sadly, due to the amount of recent build lost, it seems increasingly unlikely that the owners of Midnite Comics will be able to rebuild it. Webcomic authors Ryan North and Alex Jeffries are participating in two different events to help cure cancer. Alex is shaving his head to raise money for research, and Ryan is doing the same, as well as donating his existing flowing locks to make wigs for children. $700 has already been raised for cancer research by Alex alone.
I think this is officially the first print spin-off of Comixpedia! In a manner of speaking. Of course I’m speaking of T Campbell’s book reworking and expanding on the series of articles he first wrote for publication here.
