Ryan Estrada: International Man of Guest Comics

Five karma points for every link to a guest comic by Ryan Estrada from this week (really yesterday I think is when the Estrada-bomb was unleashed). There are a lot (so get reading)…

FLEEN has a pretty good list of where to find the Estradamania (and has a bit more today in this post plus some MOCCA Webcomic Exhibit Reception reportage as well).

And just to make it easier Ryan is in the process of posting all of the guest comics he did at his own website.

Pre-Orders Available for The Kid’s Book Project For the Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Kid’s Book Project is close to completion! The project is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Every single book bought raises over £3 for the charity (that’s somewhat more than $6)! Right now pre-orders are available. It’s £6 per book, with £1.50 P&P for UK and £2.50 P&P for International Orders.

The project is comprised of over 50 webcomic artists — each making one single page within a story and none of them know the start or the end to it (they only get to see the page previous and after their own page). With artwork from Mitch Clem, Frank Page, Brandon J Carr, Ryan North, James Hutchinson and many many more, this book will be spectacular whether the story makes sense or not.

There is only going to be 500 editions ever printed so don’t miss your opportunity to find out what happens inside!

Do it for Make-A-Wish!

Penny Arcade Vs CAD?

Damn Good Comics blogger Mr Myth says:

Stunning upset of the day: It isn’t unheard of for two popular gaming strips to happen to make near identical jokes on the same day. What was a shock, however, was the realization that on this day, Ctrl+Alt+Del managed to thoroughly out-humor Penny Arcade.

Both make jokes about a Halo-branded Mountain Dew called "Game Fuel". I’m not that sure CAD (which goes for a more straight-forward parody of the concept of a main Halo character endorsing ever more ludicrous products) made me laugh more than Penny Arcade here. Penny Arcade, as usual, took an approach to this "joke" that wasn’t as expected as probably most gaming webcomics (including CAD) would do and it’s that "left turn" aspect to PA that usually gets me, even if I’m not super-familar with the videogame they’re mocking.

Design a New Logo For Jack’s Webcomic Reviews and Win A Prize

Jack is having a contest asking his readers to design a new logo for his webcomic review site. Jack has lots of reviews of good webcomics worth checking out. The winner of his contest gets (1) a review if you have a webcomic; (2) a month-long ad on his site; and (3) a t-shirt with your logo on it (note to Jack: you’d better be clear about and put the copyright arrangement with the winner in writing; otherwise you run the risk of the creator changing his/her mind about your use). And here’s the key rule for the contest (and probably why I’m linking to it):

It can be any style, any theme, with just one little catch. You must incorporate a chimp. That simple. One chimp, two chimps, three, four, however many you want, doing whatever you want, somewhere in the logo design. It also has to be 638px(width)by 237px(height),in jpeg format. You can have a chimp at a desk, chimps at a computer, heck, chimps doing Pilates, I don’t care as long as it’s original.

The contest will run until Oct. 12th so check out Jack’s site and email in those entries!

UPDATE: Jack’s changing the name of his site to the "Webcomic Asylum" but otherwise the contest continues.

Platinum Studios Seeks Interns While Sign-Ups for Wizard World Texas Is Still On

This is pretty old news but for those of you who don’t know, Platinum Studios is seeking two individuals who might be interested in an internship at their LA headquarters. Hours and days are flexible but it must be on a weekday as the office is not open on weekends. It’s an unpaid internship but it is an opportunity to gain some experience and network with other people. More information can be found at the link above.

Meanwhile sign-ups for the DrunkDuck Wizard World Texas Artist Alley is still open but it’s now "standing room only." The reserved tables are now at their maximum capacity of four per table so while sign-ups are still welcomed, there’s no guaranteed table at this point. However DrunkDuck artists are pretty nice and in the past people have shared tables and traded spaces.
