The archives of Digger by Ursula Vernon, Magellan by Stephen Crowley, and Pishio the Cat by Zack Giollongo have all been freed temporarily, through the end of WCCA voting.
As reported earlier Narbonic by Shaenon Garrity on Modern Tales and The Stiff by Jason Thompson on Girlamatic are also free temporarily.
My webcomic, SMILE, on Girlamatic.com, is also temporarily free in honor of my WCCA nomination for Best Reality Comic.
Urhm… for subscription sites, isn’t this giving away the product — even if it is for just a short while?
Is this an experiment to see if the promotional advantage exceeds the potential lost revenue?
Six comic archives across three sites. Even if it isn’t an intentional test, I will be looking to see if any results (favorable or otherwise) get mentioned.
We’ve done it before — all of girlamatic was free on Free Comic Book Day, with decent results (a nice little uptick in subscriptions the day after — but not a tremendous uptick).
In this case, it’s less of a formal test, really, than it is an effort to make sure our artists get to compete on an equal footing in the WCCA’s for their fantastic work.
