The deadline for early exhibitor registration at this year’s Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, Ore. has been extended by a full month, allowing a greater number of small press, independent, and professional comics creators a chance to snag a table at the extremely low price of only $10 for a half table, or $20 for a full table.
According to Fest founder and organizer Indigo Kelleigh, the extension was “due to my forgetting to remind everyone about the July 1st deadline for the Early Registration discount,” adding that it would be “the fair thing to do”. After the new deadline, table prices will be bumped up to their regular price of $20/half table and $40/full table. Kelleigh also states that tables are filling up, and that the Fest is already at about 1/3 capacity, having assigned more tables that were even available at the previous year’s Fest.
The Stumptown Comics Fest will take place on October 1st from 9am to 6pm at the Smith Ballroom at Portland State University in downtown Portland. The Fest’s goal is to celebrate the actual creators of comics, the artists and cartoonists who create the work we all enjoy. We pride ourselves on the fact that there is no ‘dealers room’ filled with long-boxes fresh from someone’s basement, and that the only publishers represented have demonstrated a strong support of creator-owned work. Planned events at this year’s Fest include a video presentation by illustrator and animator Michel Gagné, a Q&A session with “Same Difference” author Derek Kirk Kim, an ‘Homage to Wild Man Fischer’ presented by JR WIlliams and Dennis Eichhorn, and the return of the much-anticipated Comic Art Battle, touted as ‘the most excercise you can get while drawing’.
