In February, there were some interesting developments in the business of webcomics. 360ep (Bill Jemas' new "content licensing" company) signed the creators of two webcomics (Danielle Corsetto, Takeshi Miyazawa and Arthur Dela Cruz) to contracts, although no one, including Corsetto, seems to know just what exactly 360ep is supposed to do. Another webcomic creator, Rich Burlew of The Order Of The Stick, quit his day job to make comics his career. Also Scott Kurtz's PvP returned to the pages of PC Gamer.

In March, Comixpedia is looking at action-oriented webcomics. Graphic Smash, a subscription site featuring action-oriented webcomics, recently announced the addition of three more webcomics to its lineup. Tauhid Bondia And Eric McCurdy Discontinue Suzie View

According to a note on comics.com Suzie View, a comic strip created by Tauhid Bondia and Eric McCurdy and picked up by comics.com in September 2004, has been discontinued.

Suzie View” has been discontinued and the last strip will be on March 8, 2005. The strip will be removed from Comics.com shortly thereafter.

The website of Bondia’s webcomic Spells and Whistles appears to be offline, but a poster to Forumopolis dug up the google cache of the site where Bondia explains the situation. Continue Reading

Daily Grind Contest Gets Slashdotted

Slashdot noticed the Daily Grind contest for webcomics yesterday. Checkerboard Nightmare also commented on this contest yesterday.

I think it’s an interesting idea and a clever means to some welcome publicity for several new creators (as well as the veterans) but given that Chris Crosby has posted a new installment of Superosity everyday (not just Monday through Friday) for six years running this is going to be a marathon of a contest. I sure hope Comixpedia is still around to publish the name of the winner when the contest ends. Continue Reading
