Pent Up Pin-up Events
There are special events and there are special events.
I just noticed that the Comic Genesis folks held a KeenLace event this past February, resurrecting it from its last installment in 2003.
I was never much of a fan of these type of "pin-up" events (which also include Bikini-Keen or whatever it was called) simply because there’s so little to it really. There’s no creative challenge to meet, nor any unusual collaboration between creators or characters, and there’s nothing particularly inventive about the "pin-up" topic itself (the recent Batgirl LJ meme was a notch higher on that scale although not much).

The Outer Circle celebrates it one year anniversary with a week of guest strips from Ali Graham (HOUSD), David Buist (Taking the Bi-pass), Tyson Smith (Pirate and Alien), Frank Page (Bob the Squirrel), Joe Dunn (Joe Loves Crappy Movies) and d!o (John & John) among others.
Joe Zabel has a new article up at the Webcomics Examiner exploring a theory of introverted and extroverted webcomics.
The Comics Worth Reading blog recommends checking out Spark-Tower Wilson’s Silent Song by Jeff Coleman and Stephen Greenwood-Hyde. CWR notes that "it’s cool that they’ve captured the texture of paper underneath the art" and points to this interview with the creators as well.
Digital Strips notes that Keven Volo (creator of PixelSrips) has taken on the daunting task of putting together an eBook on how to market a webcomic dubbed "Marketing Your Comic"”. Many artists and creators are using the web to get their work out there. They create something, they build a site and upload all of it, and wait. Just because you post your work, doesn’t mean they will come. Part one of "“Marketing Your Comic"” is out now as a free download at his website.

Goats Drops Premium Membership, Redesigns Website
Jon and Phillip have redone the Goats website. I really like the evolution of the look and the new layout scheme. It’s the kind of thing I’d do if I had any talent for writing code and doing design.
Jon also talks about dropping the Premium membership feature he’s had for the last couple of years. Paraphrasing a bit, what Jon wrote sounds like he’s very excited about the new direction he’s taking Goats in and wants to invest more time in it. Time he’ll no longer have to spend on the Patent Pending and other Sunday strips he did for his Premium members.
A tip of the hat to Jon for being upfront with his fans and striving to do the right thing for them.
It Seems Like a Lot Longer then Three Years…
I came across this Comixpedia news post today about the beginning of the ongoing Iraq conflict. That war looms so large over life these days I don’t think I’d realized we were edging up on the 3rd anniversary of its start until looking at that post.
