Barry Smith returns to webcomics with Inktank. At the start of the 00’s, Smith had a fairly popular webcomic called Angst Technology. His new strip is semi-autobiographical, "a look at my day to day life working in the tech field in California."

What do you think? Can a webcomic incorporate such targeted sponsorship (it comes awfully close to straight forward product placement) without damaging itself in the process?
Xaviar Xerexes focuses in on Dark Red, a fantasy webcomic by Lynn French and Joanna McKenzie. Dark Red features some nicely rendered photo-based art work and an epic tale of war between demons and angels and the people in between. With a a pretty small archive and the promise of a more action-packed storyline on tap, it’s not a bad time to check out this webcomic.
The WYSIWYG GUI text editor is down today. I should be able to patch things up over the weekend. In the meantime you’ll need to type out any html code by hand for posts and comments. All the WYSIWYG stuff should be working – please email or comment here if it’s not working for you (clear your cache first).

The Beat reports that the winner of March’s Zuda content was Black Cherry Bombshells by Johnny Zito, Tony Trov, Sacha Borisich and Alex Bruno and that the winner of the December Zuda contest, Pray for Death by Nick Doan and Daniele Serra is now updating, with a significant change to the art style.
Journalista! catches the release of Platinum Studios financial report for 2007. Platinum owns major webcomics community DrunkDuck and publishes webcomic-to-comic Hero By Night by DJ Coffman. Platinum reported net revenues of $1.96 million, of which arouund 1.3 million seem to be directly attributable to Hollywood options on Platinum IP. This post will get rewritten (for now I’m just too tired!) but for now I just want to point out that the center of the new site design will display our longer articles: features, columns, reviews and interviews. Daily news and blogging will now appear on the right column (with tabs to choose between "featured" which displays a combination of staff posts and selected user talk posts and "talk posts" which displays the five most recent user posts).
