NarboniCon Promises High Levels of Evil in MN

In celebration of the third birthday of Narbonic, by Shaenon K. Garrity, an unparalleled gathering of fans of evil science will take place in Bloomington, MN, on August 2-3. Ms. Garrity herself will preside over NarboniCon, which promises to be a weekend of plotting, tinkering, and manic laughter. Garrity will be joined by fellow cartoonists Jason Furness (Pixelated), Amber “glych” Greenlee (No Stereotypes), and Dirk Tiede (Paradigm Shift), and a host of henchmen, test subjects, and would-be evil interns. 2003 San Diego Comicon Webcartoonist Beard Challenge

A webcomics event to be concluded at San Diego Comicon! Come one, come all! Grow a beard by San Diego Comicon. I’ll put together a webpage that will collect the “mail in” entries and we’ll take a group picture at San Diego Comicon. The winner will be decided by beard length and will get a special spotlight at the Beard Challenge home site (TBA). Female webcomics artists are invited to participate by wearing a found fake beard (or making one!). “mail in” entries to this little “contest” can be emailed to cat@magicinkwell.com. See you (and your beard) at San Diego! Continue Reading

Sequential Tart Trip to the Mid-Ohio Con

Sequential Tart takes a trip to the Mid-Ohio Comic Convention. I’ve been to exactly two conventions in my life, the Pittsburgh Comicon and the Bethesda Small Press Expo. Both were chock full of web-friendly artists and some honest to goodness, actual webcomic-only artists. I have no idea if the Mid-Ohio Convention has a healthy webcomic contingent or not (and this article is not revealing of such) but we’d like to know.

For this year, what conventions would you rank as most significant to the webcomics community and why? And which conventions would you most like to see Comixpedia cover in greater detail? Continue Reading

One More APE Report from the ‘Tart

Trisha L. Sebastian files a great report on APE 2003 at Sequential Tart. She had a lot of interaction with some of the more exciting artists working today:

As with Comic-Con 2002, there was one image from the Alternative Press Expo (APE) that defined the entire experience for me and it came at sometime after nine-thirty on Saturday night. I was sitting on one of the handy benches at the Cartoon Art Museum behind the bar, a beer in my hand, watching Trina Robbins, Donna Barr and some of the other female cartoonists whose artwork graced the walls, just gabbing and chatting.

There’s actually a second report on APE from Adrienne “I’m Not” Rappaport as well. Continue Reading
