Comics2Film is a nifty site delivering a steady stream of news, gossip and sneak peaks of films based on comics. But you knew that already, right? What I’m waiting for is the first webcomic2film. Be sure to let Comixpedia know when you hear about it…

Check Out the Continuity Pages

The Continuity Pages is a cool little site covering comic books. They’ve just started a “news” column called The Comics Blotter which may be of interest to you but their bread and butter, so to speak, is hosting pages devoted to comic book continuity.

The Continuity Pages is a descriptive, hyperlinked catalog of comics and related books, organized alphabetically by primary author (or corporation) and then in a logical order. This order is not necessarily alphabetical by title, numerical order by issue, or order of publication. Indiana Review Literary Magazine Adds Comics

The Indiana Review literary magazine has been around for 25 years. They’re currently putting together a special issue about “marginal identities, immigrant experiences, transnationalism and hybridity.” They are looking for the standard poems and stories and non-fiction work, but they are also looking to add comics. From the IUB.edu website:

Attention Comic Artists: We’re looking for black and white comics that tackle these subjects to include in this special issue. IR is 6 x 9 inches. Ideally, we’d like to feature three or four artists, devoting about 16 pages total. Payment: $50/page.

Submission Deadline: October 31, 2003. However, we’ll keep reading until we fill the issue…

Check the link for more details about the subject matter and submission guidelines.

Orson Welles? Batman? Just Plain Wow!!!

As we as webcartoonists struggle for recognition and appreciation, it’s always interesting to see how our predecessors had to deal with some of the same issues we do.

So I was stunned to run across this story. It describes a proposed first-class, A-list Batman movie to be done by cinematic legend Orson Wells (yes, of Citizen Kane and War of the Worlds) in the mid ’40’s. And check out the list of actors signed to play the villians!!!

It also describes the difficulties in the mainstream perception of comics, not only in completing the movie, but also in keeping the extensive archive of preproduction work from the public for so long. Continue Reading
