3rd Annual Web Comics Awareness Day – May 5th

Jim writes:

For those of you who remember the Web Comics Awareness thing we did for the last two years, it's that time of year again. If anyone wants to get involved, or just wants to know what it's about, you can still check out the FAQ page that Russ put up last year.

Like the last two years, the actual date of the thing will be May 5th. (I believe the hub pages from the first two years are also still up: WCA 2001 and WCA 2002.)

Anyone and everyone can participate. Contributions can be any size: a small, single panel; some written text; a photo; a 42,000 page book — whatever you'd like to do. We had around 50 participants last year, and would like to do better this year. Also, please feel free to pass the word to anyone else you know who may be interested.

If you'd like to participate, email me with the appropriate info (your name, the name of your strip, and the URL where the strip will appear on May 5th).

Comic strip mirrors Caltech life

There’s a story in the Pasadena Star News on Crippling Depression, a comic strip about life at Caltech.

Published in Caltech’s student newspaper for nearly two years, the strip chronicles the highs and lows of life at the notoriously challenging school.

“It’s supposed to be entirely fictional, but no one ever believes us, Wan said.”

“There was a time when everyone assumed that whatever was happening in the comic was what was happening in our lives, like Tim’s and Mike’s parents,” Lee said, laughing. Continue Reading

Search Engine Strategies

You’re creating an amazing webcomic and still suffering in obscurity? Asking for links (nicely) from other webcomics is a tried and true tactic but you may want to look for fans who have yet to discover any webcomics at all. They may find your site because of its content, genre or other non-comic angles. But amongst the vast hinterlands of the Internet you’ve got to have a metaphorical flare gun to attract attention.

This page has some great advice on maximizing the visibility of your website pages to search engines. Continue Reading

Trailer for the Matrix Sequels Coming Soon

Attaced as a trailer to the movie “Dreamcatcher” (opens March 21) will be a nine-minute computer-animated film that revisits the dark yet flashy science-fiction universe of “The Matrix.”

The short is intended as a prelude to “The Matrix Reloaded. For weeks, the short, called “Final Flight of the Osiris,” has been heavily promoted on television and in computer magazines. “Final Flight” will offer what may be the most sophisticated expression of photorealistic, fully computer-generated imagery to date on the big screen.
