The Creative Process of Chris Ware

One of the many (MANY! can I just declare an "all apologies" alert?) things I overlooked in my email basket was this email from Jennifer Kobzik of CityProjects.net.  She wrote to let me know about Encounter: USA Fellows — which features video shorts profiling artists and their work. The "hook" so to speak of this project is that each video tries to show a glimpse of the creative process.  One of the featured artist’s videos features the work of Chris Ware set to some music he likes to listen too while he works:

Is This A Comic? Closure and Synthesis (Part 2)

Last month, we began delving into my third of Four Criteria which I propose help to define comics, Closure and Synthesis.  We looked at what has been a widely (though not universally) accepted concept of closure, best defined by Scott McCloud as “the phenomenon of observing the parts but perceiving the whole.”  This time around we’re going to be further exploring the other half of the criteria, synthesis.

Interview with Steven Cloud of BOASAS

Rick Marshall posted a great interview he did with Steven Cloud of Boy On A Stick and Slither.

Steven Cloud: Honestly, I’d like a shot at syndication. It was the thing that I wanted to do when I was a kid. I know, even if I am launched, the odds are against me. But still, I’d like to scratch that lottery ticket. At the same time, I’m not hanging my hat on print syndication. Say, it doesn’t work out. ZudahadaV8

hpkomic over at The Scienteers offers up a rant about the flaws of Zuda’s flash-driven display for its comics:

I don’t think there is nearly enough criticism of Zuda’s method for displaying comics. The flash player is absolutely terrible and kind of implies that the people behind it have no idea how important usability and simple navigation is to a webcomic site. Why is the webcomic site model virtually unchanged across so many webcomics? It’s because it’s a good model, functional, and the best we have. Zuda’s method is totally against what webcomics should be.
