STUMPTOWN COMIC FEST HOSTS TOO MUCH COFFEE MAN OPERA SEQUEL PANEL
Improbable Marriage of Classical Music and Comic Book Characters Gives Birth to Caffeinated Opera!
This September 29th at 3pm at Stumptown Comic Fest in Portland Ore Shannon Wheeler announces and discusses the sequel to the first opera based on a comic book; Too Much Coffee Man Opera. Stacey Murdock and accompanist Joey Prather will perform snippets from the opera, Shannon will give a brief talk and answer questions from the audience.
Platinum Studios Seeks Interns While Sign-Ups for Wizard World Texas Is Still On
This is pretty old news but for those of you who don’t know, Platinum Studios is seeking two individuals who might be interested in an internship at their LA headquarters. Hours and days are flexible but it must be on a weekday as the office is not open on weekends. It’s an unpaid internship but it is an opportunity to gain some experience and network with other people. More information can be found at the link above.
Meanwhile sign-ups for the DrunkDuck Wizard World Texas Artist Alley is still open but it’s now "standing room only." The reserved tables are now at their maximum capacity of four per table so while sign-ups are still welcomed, there’s no guaranteed table at this point. However DrunkDuck artists are pretty nice and in the past people have shared tables and traded spaces.
Whatever Happened to ZAMPSON?
The long-running webcomics podcast Digital Strips was started by Zampson and Daku. Daku Zampson left the site awhile back, but apparently he hasn’t left webcomics as he has his own site called Bramble Vine Comics where he posts his own webcomics. (link from Zampson Daku at DS).Â

Transmission-X Adds New Webcomics
The webcomic collective Transmission X has added four new ongoing comics to its daily schedule. In addition to the five comics that launched the site Karl Kerschl's Ragni: The North Sea Epoch and The Abominable Charles Christopher, Andy B's Raising Hell, Scott Hepburn's The Port and Cameron Stewart's Sin Titulo – Transmission-X is now proud to announce the debut of Ramon Perez's Kukuburi, Arthur Dela Cruz's Kissing Chaos: Til I Die, Brian McLachlan's The Princess Planet, and Michael Cho's Papercut.
BLADE DVD Giveaway This Month
Hey let’s try a give-away this month since I have something to give away!
BLADE: HOUSE OF CHTHON is a sequel to one of the Blade flicks and I have five (5) DVDs of it to give away (from the studio). And it’s the un-rated version… Anyhow if you’re interested post a comic about the Blade movies or vampire stuff in a comment to this post. I’ll give one DVD to the one I like the best, one to the one that’s funniest and the other 3 I’ll draw names out of a hat from those who posted sketches in this thread. Kowabunga: TMNT Goes Webcomic!
Creator Peter Laird writes that Volume 4 of the comic of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be published as a webcomic before being collected in a later print version (Basically TMNT is going the Girl Genius route). The plan seems to be monthly updates ("Each issue will be posted online at the ninjaturtles.com official TMNT website, within a few days (or maybe even hours) of being completed.") Laird writes further:
There are a few reasons for this new approach, mostly related to my work habits. For quite some time, before I took most of the last year off from doing the Vol. 4 comics, I had been getting more and more frustrated by what was required of me, with every issue, to meet the requirements of Diamond Comics, the major comics distributor. This included preparing solicitation material three months in advance for the "Diamond Previews" catalog, along with ads and such. For whatever reason, preparing these materials on this schedule, along with actually getting the book ready to go to the printer by a set deadline, was just really starting to get to me. (Don’t get me wrong — Diamond’s system is a fine, reasonable, businesslike approach to distributing comics, and works very well. I just can’t deal with it anymore.)
I was also getting frustrated with the time lag between finishing the book and actually seeing it appear before the eyes of the fans, on comic store shelves. It would very often be up to four or five weeks from the time we sent the materials to our printer. Again, not uncommon and completely reasonable — it takes time to print, bind, trim and ship a comic book.
Comic Mix To Publish Webcomics
The comic book blog site Comic Mix announced at the Baltimore ComicCon that it was going to publish original webcomics beginning in October. There’s a post on it at the blog Occasional Superheroine. Comic Mix doesn’t sound like it’s doing anything ground-breaking but it does sound like an interesting roster of creators who will post material there:
