Webcomix Thing – Cancelled?

The UK has many conventions but only one is specific to the smaller presses and webcomics of the known world. The UK Web and Mini Comix Thing has been running since 2004 and it seems that last year was its last outing.

The main guy behind it, "Mr Thing", has decided this year will not go on, wanting to "focus on leaving England."

There is currently word that people may band together and keep the Thing alive, but at this current point, the Webcomix Thing is no more.

Webcomics in Print is gathering together to get a collection of webcomic artists and writers birthdays in some secret project that should be unveiled later on. If you're interested email moovok(at)yahoo(dot)com or comment on this post below with your name, webcomic and your date of birth. Thank you for your time and remember dates the word!

UPDATE: You don't have to have your webcomic in print to send me the info, just as long as you have a webcomic (or used to)

How Long Can You Daily Grind?

Does anyone remember the Daily Grind Iron Man Challenge? The idea was that webcomic artists would hand over $20 to enter the competition in which they would have to update every single day (well, Monday to Friday to be fair) without any guest comics, missing days, etc. The idea had a fury of people questioning it when it started, I even remember a few webcomics moaning either in favour of the idea or not.

Television is for the Morons

They say television is the worst thing going. We're turning into a future of generations of men (and women) who'll be sat behind a screen doing nothing. Television never inspires anyone they say (and they are usually right), but this time they're wrong. Television is a genius box, a box of wonderful ideas. Without a television just think where webcomics would be.

Being Unique… Part #2

Whereas in the last thing I wrote about I was looking at just some of the many (and there's tons out there)Â unique ideas that webcomics do, such as theme tunes, animated ideas and the like, however one thing that bugs me (and a few other people – just in case you start having a go at me) is the same.

I visit a webcomic for two reasons. (1) I love the art and (2) because its usually different. Often I usually don't notice if they're different, however when you visit two sites one after another (usually by links) and then a third and realise they're the same, it kinda annoys the pants off you.

Being Unique… Part #1

Although each webcomic tries to put their own stamp across the world of the web, there's some that do exactly what the other does and some that are different. People that actually stop and think "I quite like that idea" usually set themselves apart from the rest, here are just a few:

When you think Webcomics the first idea that comes into your head isn't of having a theme tune. Why should it? It's just a strip on the web, it wouldn't need a theme tune, but to be quite honest with you, I enjoy listening to the extra content, the theme tunes as it were. Two such examples are Boy on a Stick and Slither (BOASAS) and Multiplex.

For they are coming…

Comic trends often happen between different webcomics. Something in the news will spout often similar humour throughout. Often starting up a webcomic comes with stereotypical roles for each of the characters, just in a way like a sitcom always needs a funny one, a serious one, a gay character, a female character and the like. Webcomics have the range of having a larger choice of characters to choose from but more than usual one of them is either a robot, animal, creature or thing. Sure, not every single webcomic has them, but more often than not you'll see a furry friend somewhere around.

So, why this post? Well, of late I've been documenting the fact that there's one furry that seems to be invading webcomics and more recently getting their own spotlight as a main character on most. Continue Reading

4th July – Celebrations Day

It's not only America that's celebrating something today. Beaver and Steve are celebrating their 200th strip. It doesn't seem that long ago that they were celebrating the 100th strip. The new strip coincides with the new change of updates to the new Tuesdays & Friday's updating.

Although it's about a week away (and I won't be guest blogging then), the fantastic Multiplex is turning the grand old age of one on the 10th July. Gordon McAlpin (creator of Multiplex) hopes to actually get the strip upto #75 on that date.
